I am an experienced tarantula keeper. I currently have 30 tarantulas plus lots of other invertebrates. If that spider is actually a female it is in terrible condition. It looks extremely stressed. Or like a beat-up mature male well after its ultimate molt. It has kicked all of the urticating hairs off of its abdomen and is missing a leg. That does not happen for no reason. I'm guessing it is in an inappropriate enclosure with not enough substrate or more likely the spider is handled way too often (at all is too often really) and it is extremely stressed out. Tarantulas can really hurt themselves from a drop of only a few inches and really should never be handled intentionally aside for necessary medical interventions. I feel so bad for this animal that it is subjected to children's birthday parties where it is almost certainly mishandled by multiple screaming kids with fears of spiders. Pets are not props. I wish this opportunity was taken to educate about this species and tarantulas in general and to lessen fear of them by giving interesting information and reacting in a calmer manner to this beautiful and incredible creature. Its main defense of kicking urticating hairs was not even mentioned. Nor was the fact that tarantulas can actually regenerate missing limbs. I really wish people wouldn't post videos like this. Handling tarantulas is extremely controversial subject in the tarantula keeping hobby, pretty much everyone with a bit of experience is very against handling any species unless it is completely necessary. Handling is very often deadly for them. Just look it up. They burst like water balloons when they fall from a couple feet. Videos like this normalize handling, it does nothing beneficial for the spider. It is 100% only for the person doing it and causes a lot more harm than anything positive. It is selfish and dangerous in my opinion.

We visited Oatman a couple days ago. It was 105 degrees and not one burro in site (although I certainly could smell them). They are definitely smarter then me, nobody should be in Oatman when its 105. The drive in from Kingman is not for the faint of heart!
